Keith Farmer's Rider Profile

Keith Farmer was born in Clogher, Northern Ireland in July of 1987. Nephew to the famous TT and short circuit road racing family of Mark and Steven Farmer, it wasn't long before his continual presence around the paddock and racing scene led him to want to compete himself.

In 1996 at just 9 years old he started racing motocross in the Ulster Championship aboard a Kawasaki KX60 finishing a creditable 10th in his first year. A further two years in the next age group on board a Honda CR85 kept him in the top ten each year until his third season resulted in 5th overall.

By 2001, moving up through the classes Keith had his most successful motocross season finishing second to MXGP rider Martin Barr. The following year meant a move to the 125 class this being his last youth season, still competing in the now named Ulster and Irish MX championship ended the season with 4th overall.

2003 was Farmers first year in the Adult ranks and despite finishing second in the Irish Four Stroke Championship towards the end of the season he was invited to try Supermoto at the P&O Irish Winter Series. Despite only being on a 250 four stroke in a very competitive series he managed to surprise a number of people with regular top ten positions.

After a winter break it was decided that in 2004 he would complete a full Irish Supermoto Championship, whilst still keeping fit and training at motocross. Now armed with a relatively stock Yamaha 450 regular top five and some podium finishes meant that the move to Supermoto was definitely the right choice with 4th Overall, and a wild card ride in the British Championship at his home event netted him 5th overall.

In 2005 a local Yamaha dealer offered support to Farmer supplying a bike and some parts. With a full years Supermoto experience now behind him Farmer never finished out of the top three and won enough of the remaining races to become the 2005 Irish 450 Supermoto Champion.

In 2006 he was approached by Keith Needham of SMRacing to represent his satellite Husaberg UK team. With full in house Dyno facilities and engine building rooms SMRacing build a number of high profile rider's engines and dyno & develop bikes for some world championship riders, this now meant that with ultra competitive bikes he could try his hand at the Open class. Finishing 2nd in the Irish Championship despite a mid season DNF with a puncture, representing his country at the prestigious Supermoto Of Nations where Ireland finished 5th, 4th Overall in the MotoGB British Championship with podium positions at Snetterton and Pembrey rounds, and at perhaps the biggest meeting of the year in Mettet Belgium, he also  placed 12th in the Biker final which is the best ever placing of an Irishman in the twenty year history of this event. By far his most successful season to date.

In the winter of 2006 SMRacing entered into a partnership with the Rocket Centre Blackburn and with the backing of Aprilia UK contested the P&O Irish Winter Supermoto Championship which Keith won on the new Aprilia SXV450 V twin.

For 2007 the team along with Keith Farmer will continue with Aprilia and the Rocket Centre and will concentrate on winning the British Supermoto Championship.
