The sun shone on Brogden Hall this weekend as Ashton Vale held their second race meeting of the season. The club members had worked hard to prepare the track for the days racing, although the track was a little dusty at the start of practise the club had made sure there was plenty of water on hand through out the day to keep the dust at bay.
We had four of our Rocket rider competing at his meeting Lee Buck, Rob Clitheroe, Dave "Flash" Parrington and Joe Entwistle, a big congratulations to Joe who passed his driving test last week, his poor mum has now lost her pick up!!
In the mx1 experts Lee joined Rob on the start gate as the crowds gathered to watch this much anticipated race. Race one saw Lee with a brilliant start taking the hole shot and leading the race for a few laps, Rob how ever had other ideas as he took the lead. Rob quickly opened up a good lead as Aaron Crowder came into second place. With the race win in sight a mistake by Rob on the last lap cost him the race win to Aaron Crowder. Lee continued in a strong position in race one to finish in fourth place. Race two saw Aaron Crowder take the hole shot with Rob closely on his heels, these two battled for the whole of the race riding bar to bar but it was Aaron who took the chequered flag with Rob in a very close second. Lee had another good race in as he rode his 450f to take fifth place. Race three was another exciting race as Rob took the lead with his team mate Lee not far behind in third place. Rob took the chequered flag with a good lead from the rest of the Field as Lee finished this race in a good fourth position. With the overall win going to Aaron Crowder, Rocket rider Rob took home the second place trophy with Paul Coward in third.
Mx2 experts once again saw team mates Rob and Lee sitting side by side on the start gate, Rob had three brilliant races on his 250f as he was first past the chequered flag in all three of his races to take the overall race win with maximum points. Lee also riding Yamahas' popular 250f rode well in race one to finish in sixth place, following an off in race two Lee finished just outside the top ten. In race three a collision on the start straight meant Lee had to retire from the race. Rocket rider Rob taking the overall first place win, Matthew Williamson from Rossendale took second place and Ryan Crowder also from Rossendale went home with the third place trophy.
Mx2 seniors had two Rocket riders representing the team, Dave "Flash" Parrington and Joe Entwistle both riding Yamaha 250f in this race. Race one saw Joe with a brilliant start but as he took the first bend an off cost him his race position. Joe rode well and made his way from the back of the pack to finish just outside off the top ten. Dave didn't get a good start to his first race as he ended in the back of his team mate on the first bend, but he quickly worked his way through the pack to finish in seventh place. In the second race both Joe and Dave where in good positions when they both came off at the same time, Joe in one corner and Dave in the other! They both went on to finish just outside of the top ten. Race three was much better for both out team riders, Dave had a brilliant start and very quickly took the lead and the race win, with Joe having a better race to finish in sixth position. The overall race win went to Ben Singleton, Anthony Hartley in second and Rory Preston took home the third place trophy.
