AMCA 20/7/08
This weeks meeting was held at a very windy Mills Moto Park at Haverigg as Lancaster mx club hosted the first round of the North West Championships. At the start of racing the track was in good condition but got a little rutty as the day went on, unfortunately the racing had to be cut to just two blocks due to a red flag incident. We wish those riders injured at this meeting a full and speedy recovery.
The Rocket Centre had a full complement of riders competing at this meeting, Lee Buck, Lee Payne and Robert Clitheroe riding in the expert classes and Joe Entwistle and Dave Parrington representing the team in the mx2 seniors.
The North West championships is always very competitive and today was no different, in the mx1 experts Lee Buck joined Robert Clitheroe on the start gate, Rob had a good first race as he gave Aaron Crowder a run for his money and took second place. Following a much better start to his second race Rob took the chequered flag in first place and the overall win. Lee didn't get a good start to his first race but he rode well and made his way through the pack of riders to finish just outside of the top ten. Lee rode his second race in a little pain as he had gone over the handle bars in the mx2 experts race, but he persevered and took the tenth position. Rocket rider Rob took the overall win, Aaron Crowder in second and Matthew Williamson from the Rossendale club took home the third place trophy.
Mx2 experts had three Rocket riders to entertain the crowds, in race one Lee Payne was involved in a red flag incident and although he passed the chequered flag in first place he could not be scored and the points went to Rob who was hot on his heels. Lee Buck took a tumble over the handle bars in this race but he got back on to finish just outside of the top ten. In race two Lee Payne and Rob had a battle on there own as they raced ahead of the rest of the field displaying brilliant riding skills as the track became rutty, but it was Lee who took the flag closely followed by Rob. Lee Buck retired from this race as he had another off and was unable to continue. The overall win went to Rocket rider Rob with Michael Reynolds in second and Rocket rider Lee Payne with the over all third place.
Mx2 seniors saw Joe and Dave going into battle, race one saw Dave with a brilliant start to the race as he was up in the top three from the first lap to the chequered flag as he finished in third place. Joe quickly made his way through the pack in his first race worked hard to take the chequered in second place. Race two saw Joe and Dave battling hard with each other first Joe took a tumble but managed to keep his bike running and quickly made his way back to second place. Dave was in third position on the last lap before a mistake cost him race positions and he finished in seventh place. Rocket rider Joe took the overall win with Anthony Hartley in second and Gareth Harvey taking home the third place trophy.
