It was a matter of fourth time lucky this week-end for Leigh mxc as their first meeting of the season finally got underway. Club members had worked hard to ensure the track was in good condition for the riders at the start of the days racing, it was just unfortunate that the machinery to water the track let them down. As the day went on some parts of the track became very dusty but this didn't stop the riders from providing the crowds with some great entertainment.
The Rocket team boys did us proud this week-end as all our riders went home polishing trophies with Lee Buck taking home two for Karen to dust!
In the mx1 experts Lee Payne joined his team mate Lee Buck on the start gate, Lee Payne took the lead on the first lap and very quickly open up a large gap between him and the rest of the field to take the chequered flag with a commanding lead. Lee had another brilliant start to race two but unfortunately two laps in Lee had to retire from the racing. In race one Lee Buck made his way through the pack on his 450f Yamaha to finish in sixth, a much better start to race two saw Lee with a good third place and after another good start to race three he finished fourth to take overall third.
The overall first place went to Dave Wright on his Rocket Centre Yamaha, nice to see him back with Aaron Crowder in second, our very own Rocket rider Lee Buck in third, Sean Eckersley in fourth and Michael Smith from the Rossendale club taking home the overall fifth place trophy.
In the mx2 experts we had three Rocket team mates sitting side by side on the start gate, Lee Payne, Robert Clitheroe and Lee Buck, but it was Lee Payne who took the early lead in all three races with his team mate Robert Clitheroe hot on his tracks. These two riders had such an impressive lead from the rest of the field the only ones they had to race against were the back markers! Lee Buck once again took some good race positions to finish seventh in race one, sixth in race two and fourth in race three. The overall win was taken by Rocket rider Lee Payne with maximum points, his team mate Robert Clitheroe in second, Michael Reynolds in third, Rocket rider Lee Buck picking up his second trophy of the day in fourth position and Alex Hefferon with the overall fifth place.
Dave "Flash" Parrington and Joe Entwistle represented the Rocket team in the mx2 seniors, after three brilliant starts and very consistent riding from Dave he finished in third position in all three of his races to take the overall second place trophy. Although Joe didn't get a good start in race one he made his way through the pack to finish in ninth place, after better starts in his other two races he finished fourth in race two and fifth in race three to take the overall fifth place trophy. It was Ben Singleton who had the overall race win with Rocket rider Dave in second, Chester Martin in third, Dale weir in fourth and Rocket rider Joe with the fifth place trophy.
The Rocket Centre would like to wish those riders injured at this meeting a full and speedy recovery.
Next weeks meeting is a bank holiday double header courtesy of Rossendale mxc, where camping will be allowed on both Saturday and Sunday nights at £5.00 per vehicle. Please ensure you are on site by 10pm and all late entries must be pre-booked. As usual the Rockets spares van will be on site on both days for you to purchase any parts or products you may need. If you would like us to take anything to these meetings please contact the off road section before Saturday and we will do our best to bring it along with us. The weather is forecast to be glorious and I know you won't be disappointed with the racing so take a trip to Whalley Nab and show your support to our Rocket team boys.
