2008 British Supermoto Championship Round 5 & 6

Blyton Raceway near Lincoln, perhaps more famous for rallycross than supermoto, hosted rounds 5 and 6 of the British Supermoto Championship this weekend. With changeable weather forecast but bright skies and a dry track upon arrival the team were hopeful for a dry weekend. However on Friday night extensive thunder storms left parts of the track and paddock flooded. With a small delay the organisers worked hard to remove the standing water before practice and qualifying began.

Keith Farmer, current Championship leader having never ridden before at Blyton started out tentative and in qualifying posted fifth fastest time to start inside of the second row.

With his confidence growing Farmer managed to fire his 550 Aprilia to the front in every moto, proving he is now a genuine championship contender he lead all three motos winning race one and finishing third and second in the next two to extend his Championship lead by a few points with second overall to Factory Aprilia rider Christian Iddon.

Day two and in almost a re-run of the weather a huge downpour meant the day started out in pretty much the same fashion, now with growing confidence and a small change to bike set up over night Farmer headed qualification right up to the last seconds, eventually finishing third but still on the front row. Saturdays lightning starts seemed to just not happen on Sunday but Farmer was always up front and in touch with the leaders. Good consistent riding  for second, third and second again gave Farmer second overall and he gained some more points over his nearest rival to extend his Championship lead further.

With just one weekends break the championship heads to teeside, Farmer knows this track well as the team have trained and competed there quite often so hope for another good weekends racing.

Special thanks this weekend go to Neil at Pro Action Suspension who worked tirelessly with Farmer all weekend to find a set up that worked on such a tricky and slippy circuit even fully rebuilding his rear shock on Saturday into the night just to allow Farmer more options with his settings.

In the British Youth class Ollie Harrison continued his total domination with pole on both days and six wins from six starts to further extend his lead in the class.

Ollie also competes in the S3 (250F) class and after his podium at Crail two weeks ago he proved that this was no fluke and qualified on the front row for both days taking third overall on Saturday and second overall on Sunday to hoist himself into the top five at the mid point of the championship.
